Summary

Archived cards in Trello are hidden from the board view but not deleted. They are accessible through the Archived items panel in the board menu. You can search by card name, view the card details, restore cards to any list, or permanently delete them from this panel.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Step 1

    Open the board menu

Click the three-dot (…) menu icon in the top-right corner of the board, next to the board title.

  2. Step 2

    Click More

In the board menu, click More to expand additional options.

  3. Step 3

    Open Archived items

Click Archived items. A panel opens on the right showing all archived cards and lists for this board.

  4. Step 4

    Find your card

Browse the list or type the card name in the search field at the top of the panel to filter results.

  5. Step 5

    Restore or delete the card

Click Send to board next to a card to move it back to the list it came from. Click Delete to permanently remove it.

Why this matters

A card was archived — maybe accidentally, maybe intentionally — and now you need it back, or you want to check what was on it before it was removed from the board.

Troubleshooting

  • I cannot find the Archived items option

Make sure you have clicked More inside the board menu — Archived items is nested one level deeper. If the option is missing, you may need edit access to the board.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do archived cards count toward any Trello limits?

No. Archived cards do not count toward the free plan's card limits. Only open (non-archived) cards are counted.

  • Can I restore a card to a specific list rather than its original list?

Click the card in the Archived items panel to open it, then click Send to board. The card returns to its original list. You can then drag it to any other list.
